Random Tidbits

There are approximately 33 million elementary school children in the U.S, 17 million kids attending high school, and 8.8 little ones in nursery schools and kindergartens. All told, including college students, and about 78 million kids head back to school every fall.

Schools that ditch schoolyard rules are actually seeing a drop in bullying, serious injuries and vandalism, while concentration levels in class are increasing. Turns out giving children too many rules hurts their development.

My Rambling Thoughts

Nice day outside. I got 2 loads of laundry done and put away and stripped and waxed the tile floors downstairs. The upstairs is ready for the fall cleaning.

Having an older vehicle I don’t have to pay a huge registration each year. So I was surprised when this year’s registration was higher than last year.  The $25+ increase was because of a “Public Safety Fee.’ I put the new sticker on my license plate and headed to the internet machine to learn more about this new fee. The story is not pretty. Years ago the AZ voters passed a law that any increase in taxes had to be approved by a 2/3 vote in the legislature. The legislature tried to raise the registration fee on vehicles to give more money to the Highway Patrol and for road repair. It didn’t pass. So it turns out, fees are not considered tax so the new fee was added to everyone registering a vehicle…sounds like a tax to me. I’m all for improving our roads and helping the Highway Patrol improve. This is just a sneaky way to do it.

The only football game I’m interested in on TV is the Cards v Ravens. They are playing in Baltimore. Cards are hanging in, but can’t pull off the win. Broncos are playing the Bears in Denver, but Flagstaff TV is not carrying the game. Guess I’ll follow it on the internet machine. Broncos leading at end of 1st Q, the Bears score at beginning of second. Looks like a good game.
