Random Tidbits
It's
October, which means that everything 'pumpkin' is the thing. Pumpkin lattes,
pumpkin donuts, pumpkin scented candles... you name it!
The
word pumpkin showed up for the first time in the fairy tale Cinderella. A
French explorer in 1584 first called them "gros melons," which
translates into Latin as "pepon," which means large melon. It wasn't
until the 17th century that they were first referred to as pumpkins.

My Rambling Thoughts
Monday is pretty chilly here. The wind gusts aren’t helping
either. When I looked outside around 6am there was frost on the windshields. I
made a quick trip to Home Depot around 10am and it was still pretty chilly. Tuba and Tonalea (about 5000') got some snow, but no snow here, yet.
The fires in California are devastating. The beauty of the
trees is being overshadowed by the hundreds of homes that are lost.
The recent attack that ended in the killing of the ISIS
leader was nicknamed Operation Kayla Mueller. She had been captured, tortured,
and later killed by ISIS a few years ago. She grew up in Prescott, AZ, and
attended college here in Flagstaff.
A couple of my Tuba friends were out elk hunting this past
week. I was hoping for some elk steaks but alas, no success on their hunt.
