Today’s  Quote

"If you look at what you have in life,

you'll always have more.

If you look at what you don't have in life,

you'll never have enough."

Random Tidbits

The seven-year itch

Before the phrase became associated with Marilyn Monroe’s iconic skirt, the “seven-year itch” felt much worse than a playful subway breeze. The term originally referred to scabies, an itchy infection caused by mites burrowing underneath a person’s skin. Its “seven-year” moniker referred to how long the bugs could linger. Yuck!

 Gadzooks!

“Zounds!” “Egad!” “Cripes!” These silly exclamations, called minced oaths, were originally Bible-friendly alternatives to swearing. The idea was that if you shouted “Gadzooks!” instead of “God’s hooks!”—a reference to the nails from the Crucifixion—you could stub your toe without running afoul of the third commandment. Other minced oaths: gosh (“God”) and jeepers (“Jesus”). Christians have been shouting “gadzooks” since the 1690s.

My Rambling Thoughts

A nice fall day…great day for a long walk…so I did.

Flagstaff Unified School District had a marathon 6+hour board meeting last night. The main topics were opening the schools for in-person classes and what to do about sports. News reports say the district, and me, are in an area with ‘substantial community spread’. Most of the time was taken up be the sports decision. The end came when the board voted to begin a phased in in-person classes at the beginning of the 2Q [Oct. 11] and allow sports practices until then. Those interested in sports had a difficult or impossible time understanding the difference between sports practices at the school and a game with another team at the school. So sad.

Breonna Taylor’s family is upset over the Grand Jury decision that no officer was responsible for her death, but also asked for only peaceful demonstrations. Two cops were shot last night. It is another discouraging state of affairs for our country.

I fully understand that Trump makes outrageous statement, sometimes just for press coverage. I guess nothing is sacrosanct in his head. He suggestion that he couldn’t promise a peaceful transition if he loses the election was one of those statements. As one Congressman said: Sometimes Trump says crazy things. Trump cannot blame his statement on Dems, or radicals, or extremists, or Antifa. But I am sure he will try. For me, questioning election protocol is not cool.

An Anglo friend from the Rez just posted that her niece was just released from the hospital. Her bill for Covid stay was $1,500,000; her niece's husband was also in the hospital with Covid. His bill hasn’t arrived yet.
