Today’s Quote
People
may hear your words, but they feel your attitude.

Random Tidbits
Did you know Columbus inspired the
name Columbia? Historically Columbia has been the poetic name used for the
United States and also the name of its female personification. The image of
Columbia represented America until it was supplanted by the Statue of Liberty
in the 20th century.
Columbia has given her name to
many places, objects, and institutions, like Columbia University and the
District of Columbia.
A little humor
Never let it be said that ground crews lack a
sense of humor. Here are actual maintenance complaints submitted by UPS pilots
("P") and solutions recorded ("S") by maintenance
engineers:
P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.
P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to
stick.
S: That's what friction locks are for.
P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.
True Things
Tonto:
Very simply put, this word
is from the Spanish language, and translated means 'stupid', 'idiot' or
'fool'. Enough said....
Savage:
I don't think this one
needs a whole lot of explaining. Indigenous people are not beasts and never
were. But Indigenous people were considered to be 'uncivilized' by European
invaders merely because those societies were new to them. This 'new world' was and
is, very old to the First Nations people. Did you know the U.S. Declaration of
Independence refers to Indigenous people as "merciless Indian
Savages"? These bigoted words go way back, and are rooted in racism.

My Rambling Thoughts
It’s
another nice warm day with only a slight breeze. Great day to enjoy the weather
on the deck.
There
was a 3.3 earthquake about 8 miles from Flag in Walnut Canyon. I didn’t feel
it, and there is no reported damage.
I
have been watching most of the SC nomination. She is a very well educated and
precise speaker. From what I’ve heard, while I don’t agree with her, she is
qualified.
Many
have seen the YouTube/TicToc video of the guy drinking cranberry juice, singing
the Fleetwood Mac song ‘Dreams’ as he skateboards down the highway. It has had
over 29milliion views. Ocean Spray gave him a new vehicle. Lots of people, including the Fleetwood Mac founder
have made similar videos. I checked the internet machine and Nathan Apodaca is
a Northern Cheyenne/Mexican. Cool.
Last
night I saw the devastation from flooding in Vietnam. So difficult to watch.
Ballot
Harvesting is legal in CA. That means you can give your ballot to someone, sign
an affidavit that you did that, and have them turn in your ballot. The
Republican Party of CA has taken in a step too far. They have put ballot drop
boxes around certain counties. The problem is there is no affidavit and no way
to know if your ballot is counted. It seems this scheme is just to confuse
voters who want to vote. But CA is not the only state where voting is becoming
a real issue. In AZ, the deadline for registering to vote, due to Covid, was
extended to Oct 23 from Oct. 5. Republicans have taken that to court. If you
registered on Oct. 6 or after, you still might not have a valid registration
and your ballot may not be counted. This is all insanity.
While
Trump refused to debate virtually, he is showing is lack of education on
debates. In 1960 Kennedy/Nixon had a virtual debate. One was on the west coast,
the other on the east coast. Worked just fine. So well that most of us don’t
even remember they saw the first virtual debate for POTUS.
As
a white guy, I was offended by Trump’s Columbus Day Proclamation this year.
“Sadly, in recent years, radical activists have sought to undermine
Christopher Columbus’s legacy. These extremists seek to replace discussion of
his vast contributions with talk of failings, his discoveries with atrocities,
and his achievements with transgressions,” the proclamation says. Seriously?
Yes he said it.
