Random Tidbits
The whole reason we have
seasons is because the Earth rotates on a tilted axis around the sun. But even
though the solstice is the shortest day of the year, the coldest week of winter
usually takes place the third or fourth week of January. That's because the
planet is o big, it takes several weeks to fully react to the loss of daylight.
The solstice is
considered astronomical winter. Meteorological winter is a three month period
that runs from December 1st to the end of February. It is the coldest
three-month period of the year in the northern hemisphere.
We have lost a lot of
daylight since the first day of astronomical summer back in June - six hours of
it. The speed at which we gain and lose daylight increases towards the
equinoxes, and then slows down at the solstices.
There is only around nine
hours of possible daylight this time of year. We will only gain a few seconds
of it each day for the rest of the week. But we will be gaining a minute a day
by the end of January's first week, and two minutes a day by the fourth week.

Australian woman assaults
officer with breast milk
An Australian woman was
denied bail after she allegedly squirted breast milk on a police officer's
head, arms and clothes. Authorities said Erica Leeder, 26, of Calista, Western
Australia, was being searched at the Fremantle police station after being
arrested on an unspecified warrant. Police said Leeder, who was nude from the
waist up during the search, grabbed her own breast and squirted milk onto the
forehead, arms and clothes of the female officer conducting the search. Leeder
appeared in Fremantle Magistrate's Court on a charge of assaulting a public
officer. She was denied bail and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation
prior to her next court appearance. The magistrate said a previous conviction
for assaulting a police officer factored into the decision to deny bail. The
Western Australia Police Union said the assault charge from the incident was
partially due to the possibility of spreading disease from the breast milk.

Thoughts
It is turning into a genuinely nice winter day. I took a nice walk
this morning.
While I have added a new topic, Interesting Things about AZ it
is being done to educate, not to encourage people to move to our state. AZ is
growing much too fast.
I caught up with Mary today, on the phone. She is finishing her 8th
quilt since Covid began. She gave in and went to Phoenix for Christmas, but
social distanced and wore a mask. She had Christmas Dinner outside, on her son’s
patio/deck, at small tables, with relatives. Those who lived together had their
own table and the nearest table was 6’ away. A cook plated all the food. A
dinner to remember.
No matter how the Georgia election turns out, our country will
survive. This is not the country’s first rodeo. It is time for Congress to step
up, get a national plan for inoculation, help those suffering, and hungry.
