Random Tidbits
Beer (in part because it
contains antimicrobial ethanol) was a healthier drink than polluted Nile river
water.
You might have known that
fact if you were a beer expert, or cerevisaphile - a word derived from the
Latin name of the Roman goddess of agriculture, Ceres, and vis, meaning
strength.
A Little Something to Think About
If people ring a bell today and rang a bell yesterday, why don’t we
say that they flange a ball?
If they wrote a letter, perhaps they also bot their tongue. If a
teacher taught, why isn’t it also true that the preacher paught?

Free-diver swims 394 feet
under ice
A French free-diver
plunged into a frigid lake in Finland to swim 394 feet under the ice and break
a world record. Arthur Guerin-Boeri, 36, a five-time world champion free-diver,
plunged into the lake while wearing a wet suit, but no gloves or flippers. Guerin-Boeri
swam 394 feet under the ice, spending about three minutes submerged. The free-diver's
feat came just one month after Czech free-diver David Vencl swam 265 feet under
the ice of a quarry northwest of Prague while wearing only his bathing suit.
Evidence from Guerin-Boeri's swim is now being submitted to Guinness World
Records.

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
A nice spring day. Good day for a walk in the forest. Which is exactly
what I did.
Over the past year there have been many cyberattacks on hospitals. The
hackers freeze all data and charge thousands to get the data back. It is estimated
that hospitals in the US have paid over $500 million to get data back…DURING
THE PANDEMIC. I hope that law enforcement identifies these hackers, gather
evidence, and prosecute them. If they are found guilty, they will spend decades
in prison with no internet access.
I checked the Women’s NCAA bracket…Arizona has made it to the Elite 8.
Very well done. Now is the time for the NCAA to treat female teams the exact same
way they treat male teams. I am shocked at the many disparities. Back in the 80’s
when I was an Athletic Director/Supervisor at Tonalea our league was very aware
of Title IX and did our best to treat all teams equally. I just assumed that
the NCAA was doing the same. Guess that old saying about assuming is correct.
I still have Myanmar on my bucket list. It is still not the time. Yesterday
the army, under the direction of the new coup leaders, slaughtered over 100 of
its own citizens, some were children. This has to stop.
