Random Tidbits
In addition to their
physical beauty, butterflies act as one of nature's couriers. In the case of
Monarch butterflies, which pollinate milkweed, they may transfer a pollen sac
to the next plant on their legs or other body parts.
Millions of Monarch
butterflies, which reside in the Northeast in the summer, make a 2,000-mile
migration down to Mexico for the winter months. After congregating there,
they'll mate and new generations will make the return trip back north in the
warmer months.
Monarchs are toxic and in
fact, some butterfly species such as the Viceroy play on that feature by
mimicking the signature bright orange and black coloring of Monarchs to
discourage birds from eating them.

True Things
-- Volusia County
(Florida) Sheriff's deputies responding to a fire at Myers Marine Service in
Deland on March 13 were met by witnesses who said they saw Sean Sword running
out of the building saying, "I lit a tow rope on fire." Sword, who
was severely burned, told deputies conflicting stories about his motives,
according to court papers, but after being interviewed at the hospital, he
admitted he was looking for a vehicle to steal, but "it didn't work
out," so he set a tow rope on fire and the flames spread, adding that he
hoped to be in jail for a long time. Boats and equipment valued at nearly
$100,000 were damaged, records show, and Sword faces arson and burglary charges.

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
A nice day. Yesterday my plan
worked. I washed my vehicle and in the late afternoon we had a big
thunder/lightning storm. Rain was bouncing about 2” of the pavement. It
lasted about 20 minutes, then a nice gentle rain another 20 minutes. It
wasn’t in the forecast but greatly appreciated. Hopefully today will bring
the same. I learned that Nepal is a real
hot spot for Covid. Lots of cases, lots of deaths, and no vaccine available.
Sad. Hong Kong banned any
demonstrations on the anniversary of Tiananmen Square’s military takeover.
This is the first year since the killings that any demonstration has been
banned. It is getting harder and harder to recognize Hong Kong as a separate
entity. Sad. One of the yesterday’s warmest
US cities was BISMARK, NORTH DAKOTA, at 106. Record shattering. WOW! President Biden has stated that
Ransomware attacks on US companies are now considered a National Security
Issue. That opens many new pathways to prevent future attacks. I sure hope
this works. |
