Have a laugh
What's the difference between here & there? T (the
letter 't' is added to the front 'here' to spell 'there'). |
Trivia
Pocahontas fell in love with John Smith. Never get your history
for Disney movies. The essence of the Pocahontas/John Smith story is true. A
young Native American girl did befriend an Englishman, and their relationship
may have saved the Jamestown colony. But Pocahontas was just 12, which would
make a romantic relationship with a 28-year-old man wildly inappropriate,
even by 17th century standards. The
Puritans came to the New World seeking religious freedom. The problem with
that sentence is the "freedom" part. It all started in 1593, when
the Protestant "Separatists" emigrated to Holland from England for
the chance to practice their religious preferences without interference. The
only problem? Holland allowed too much religious freedom, giving free reign
to Judaism and Catholicism and even atheism. It was too much for their pure
Puritan hearts. So they jumped on the Mayflower and went looking for a new
world. |
My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
A cold night and a chilly day. I went to
a local Christmas Craft Sale. There were several Native vendors. I found some
nice silver earrings for my sister-in-law. I asked the guy where he was from.
First, he said Flagstaff where he got a degree in music and masters in
silversmithing. Then I asked where he was originally from. He said 4-corners.
I must have looked odd. I said I worked in Tuba. He smiled and said I’m from
Chinle. That is quite a way from 4-Corners. He said most white people have
never heard of Chinle, but they all know 4-Corners. We both laughed. Sad to
hear that Broncos former WR, Demaryius Thomas, passed from a seizure at 33. I just
learned that about 30% of enlisted military families are food insecure. I
wish the Congressional lawmakers knew this and as they keep raising the military
budget every year, they would include funding for the humans who are doing
the military job every day. |
