My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Sunshine and chilly. The snow is slowly melting. Another storm is due on Thursday. Will it ever end?

I did my boarding pass stuff for the Tahiti trip. Couldn’t finish quite yet. Called Ed and he is doing his today…then I can get my boarding pass. Only issue now is the Covid test.

The President of Ukraine gave an impassioned speech over zoom to the British Parliament. As of yesterday, 1.7million have fled. The world needs to do something and quickly.

Ø    1611 – Johannes Fabricius, a Dutch astronomer, discovered sunspots.

Ø    1822 – Charles M. Graham of NY was issued the first US Patent (#X03472) for artificial teeth.

Ø    1841 – The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the United States v. The Amistad case that captive Africans who had seized control of the ship carrying them had been taken into slavery illegally.

Ø    1842 – The first documented discovery of gold in California occurred at Rancho San Francisco, six years before the California Gold Rush.

Ø    1945 – 300 B29 bombers dropped nearly 500,000 cylinders of napalm and petroleum jelly on Tokyo creating a 40-sq-km firestorm that killed over 100,000 and maimed another million. It was the most destructive single bombing in history, including Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs.

Ø    1959 – The Barbie doll made its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York.
