My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
A very windy
day. Glad there is no sand to be blowing.
The cable
guy came so I could watch CNN. I haven’t had that channel since two weeks before
I left. It was not my box issue, but the signal is not getting to my house. No
idea when it will be fixed.
Our first
night of cruising took us to the island of Raiatea. Ed and I did an ‘off-road’
excursion on the island. It was beautiful. We were on paved roads all the time,
but it was a great experience. I’m working on a presentation and will make it
available when it is completed.
All the
islands were green, green, green and the ocean was always a variety of blues. Some
of the ocean was a deep blue but around the shores it was various shades of
turquoise. Every time we got off the boat, we were greeted by a local with a
fresh flower. At the smaller islands there were no credit cards and cash only
and only some took US dollars. We always had great guides, although some had
limited English. They were all friendly and wanted us to love the island as much
as they did. COVIOD really left many in dire straits…especially those with working
in the tourist industry. The Filipino guy that had us waiting to get on the ship
had been trapped on an island for 3 months as no visas were being given. Tough
times. Most of the guides were basically unemployed for almost 2 years.
