My
Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
It
appears this storm has passed after dumping over a foot of snow. Good riddance.
This
season has brought 140” (that’s over 11.6 feet). We are heading to the record
of 153.9” in 1949. As they say, it’s been a record breaker.
TSA
keeps finding loaded weapons and explosives in passenger luggage. Their explanation: People are forgetful.
Exactly how does one ‘forget’ that put a loaded gun in their luggage? I have flown
a lot since 9-11. I have stood in lines, took off my shoes and belt, walked
through machines, been ‘wanded’, been swiped on the arm for explosives and much
more. I just don’t think it is forgetfulness. TSA needs to step up and publish results
at every airport while we stand in line. People won’t believe the ‘forget’
excuse for long and will demand more.
Enjoy…
Facts…
Discovered
in July 1799, the Rosetta Stone is perhaps the most famous linguistics
discovery in human history; it turned out to be a 1,600-pound key that unlocked
the ancient mysteries of the Egyptian language. However, many other lost
languages haven’t been so lucky, including tongues such as Meroitic from Sudan,
Linear A from Crete, and Proto-Elamite from Iran. But the most famous
undeciphered written language is the Indus script, which is the oldest written
language on the Indian subcontinent and dates back to around 2600 BCE. Because
this script has no bilingual text like the Rosetta Stone (at least not so far),
the language has remained incomprehensible — a major reason why the Indus
Valley Civilization is one of the least-known major civilizations in ancient
history. It’s even possible that the Indus script is a fifth example of
independently evolved language, though it’s impossible to know for sure without
deciphering it.
A Look
back in time…Baby Boomers life
#5 No Sunscreen
Sunscreen was not widely available or used in the past. Baby Boomers often spent hours in the sun without any protection, leading to severe sunburns and an increased risk of skin cancer.Today, sunscreen is a staple in many people’s daily routines and is recommended by the CDC for protecting skin from harmful UV rays. It's also what Jennifer Lopez says is the secret behind her youthful skin in her 50s.
Beauty in
our 50 states…
A certain type of person could protest
this low ranking because Oklahoma at least brings its share of variety. That
panhandle stretches out and kisses New Mexico on the cheek, the southern edge
is perfect for reading Larry McMurtry scenes, and the eastern edge along the
Arkansas border is a surprisingly diverse mix of electric-green hills and
jungly mid-American forests. Suffice it to say that Oklahoma is probably
prettier than you expect—but then again, your expectations were low for a reason.
