Today’s Thoughts
Another
nice fall day.
Yesterday
was very busy. The cable TV box in my office died. I went to the new Optimum
office to switch it out. It is in a 4-story Apt. complex near the University
with the first floor as commercial business. The office is on a major street in
town, no parking except in lots. The only lot had many spaces, all numbered and
reserved for residents. I finally parked in a numbered space. The customer
service representative missed the class on friendliness, and the one on
efficiency, and others but she was top student on the one on surliness. She had to schedule a tech to come 8-11
today. I did call corporate to complain because to talk to the manager would be
3-5 days. Happily, the guy called at 8:15, arrived at 8:45, hooked up the new
box and was gone by 9:00.
Remember
Alex Murdaugh, the guy who was convicted of killing his wife and son, and is
awaiting trial for money issues? His lawyers just asked for a new murder trial
because they say they have proof that one of the clerks of the court hassled
the jury members and told them Alex had lied. A retrial may be in the making.
Our
local paper will have new ownership on Sept. 25. It was a local paper, sold to
a conglomerate in Iowa, and now to another conglomerate from Sierra Vista in
AZ. No word on how this will change the
paper, but it will be hard to be worse than what we had under the first
conglomerate. Only time will tell. Just hoping the paper gets better.

Pontoon Boats
The first pontoon boat was little more than a
wooden platform strapped to two columns of steel barrels, an idea often
credited to Ambrose Weeres, a 1950s farmer in rural Minnesota who wanted to
create a boat that would fit a whole family. Since then, the vessel’s
popularity has expanded far beyond the Land of 10,000 Lakes, becoming a
cherished regular from California’s Lake Tahoe to Maine’s Moosehead Lake—and
even on the airwaves with Little Big Town’s 2012 No. 1 hit, “Pontoon.”
Random Trivia…
When Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were beheaded, it is said
that people dipped handkerchiefs in their blood to keep as souvenirs. In 2011,
a group of scientists confirmed that a blood-stained handkerchief dated
approximately 1793 was soaked in the blood of Louis XVI.
In 1644, English statesman Oliver Cromwell banned the eating of
pie. He declared it a pagan form of pleasure. For 16 years, pie eating and
making went underground until the Restoration leaders lifted the ban on pie in
1660.

effort is all; continue and you may get there despite everything.”
