Thoughts for the day
My eye appointment went well. He’s
changing my eye drops. Now I’ll do one once-a-day instead of twice a day.
Sounds good to me.
Back in 2022, Kari Lake lost the
governor’s race here. She never conceded the election and filled the courts
with issues. Now that she has lost the Senate seat here, she still hasn’t conceded.
I’m sure she will use the courts again. Sad.
Myths
Myth #20: The Effect Oil Has on a Burn
Let’s turn up the heat on this
enduring misconception: relying on oil to treat burns is not the panacea it’s
cracked up to be. Contrary to the age-old advice, using oil can actually fan
the flames of your burn problems by trapping heat, potentially deepening the
wound and stalling the healing process.
The game plan? Give the burnt area a
good soak under the faucet for a solid ten minutes. This will help cool the
skin, ease the pain, and kickstart the healing process. Once you’ve got it
adequately cooled, wrap the affected area in a clean, non-stick bandage to ward
off any unwelcome infections.
Random Thoughts…
Everything the human race has learned
about the universe heavily depends on the limitations of our ability to
perceive our surroundings. We could be 100% wrong about everything but simply
not be intelligent enough to realize it.
The Diary of Merer is the oldest
papyri ever discovered. It details the daily life of workers who built the
Great Pyramid of Giza.
Salmon have small particles of iron in their brain, which act as the magnetic needle in a compass to help them navigate to the place where they were spawned. The process is called magnetoception.
Ancient Roman Life
Being poor in Ancient Rome
meant you would live on a high rise
Rome was populated mainly by
those at the lower end of the income scale. They all needed somewhere to call
home, as they were part of the first city with over 1,000,000 inhabitants.
Solution? High rises. These apartment buildings were known as the insula,
meaning “island,” and could reach 100 feet in height.
The worst apartments were on
the highest floors. Because they were dark and cramped, it was likely that
someone would die in a fire. The bottom floors were reserved for people with
more money. Many rented rooms to multiple roommates. However, no apartment came
with running water or insulation.
