Today’s Seasonal Quote

Thoughts for the day

A very warm day for late fall, and tomorrow should be even warmer. A good day for an afternoon walk. My right foot was sore this morning but was fine by noon.

I got to watch the Broncos lose to the Chargers last night. I’m disappointed.

I did my weekly grocery shopping at Fry’s today…and didn’t even have to wear a jacket to the store. Nice.

Christmas Traditions

Christmas is Celebrated on Jesus' Birthday

A common belief is that Christmas marks the exact birthdate of Jesus Christ. Historical evidence suggests otherwise. The Bible doesn't specify a date, and December 25th was chosen in the fourth century.

This date aligns with pagan winter solstice festivals, merging Christian and cultural practices. Christmas has evolved into a global celebration, embracing diverse traditions.

Understanding this myth encourages embracing Christmas's multifaceted nature, celebrating unity and goodwill across cultures.

Cheops’s Law: Nothing ever gets built on schedule or within budget.

When an app asks me to rate it whilst I’m using it – I always select “ask me later” NOT “never” because I don’t want the app to hate me.

Minnie Mouse’s full name is Minerva Mouse.

Quirky town names…

Truth or Consequences, New Mexico

Originally named Hot Springs, this town changed its name in 1950 after a radio show challenge. The host of Truth or Consequences promised to broadcast from the first town to rename itself after the show.

Hot Springs took up the offer, and the name stuck.

Ancient Roman Life

Life of a female slave

In ancient Rome, female slaves faced a particularly harrowing existence marked by exploitation and a lack of autonomy. Beyond the general hardships endured by all slaves, such as grueling labor and harsh punishments, women in bondage were often subjected to additional layers of abuse and degradation. Many were bought specifically for their masters’ physical gratification, a tragic exploitation that stripped them of their autonomy and consent. This coital slavery wasn’t just a private affair; it extended to public brothels, where countless female slaves were forced to service numerous clients daily.
