Thoughts for the day
A nice summer day.
Our discussion group should be invigorating today. We are discussing the
role of NATO in today’s world and the Trump administration’s role in these
changes. Historically, NATO has always had internal issues…do they allow
Germany to build up a military?...How are dues figured to be fair?...Should
countries outside Europe and the US be allowed to join? Times have not changed
that much.
I have appointments with the urologist and the kidney doctor next week. I’m
hoping all the blood and urine tests show improvement.
I’m also hoping the monsoon returns with moisture for our bone-dry area.
History Facts Americans Commonly Get
Wrong
The Civil War Was Primarily
About Slavery ©unsplash
There’s a persistent belief in
some circles that the Civil War was fought over “states’ rights” or economic
reasons. However, virtually all serious historians agree the central cause was
slavery.
Confederate states themselves made this clear in their secession documents,
repeatedly citing the preservation of slavery as their motive. Recent polls
show that a significant portion of Americans still misunderstand this fact,
sometimes due to decades of “Lost Cause” propaganda that tried to downplay
slavery’s role.
