Thoughts for the day

A great summer day. Warm, calm, and a very blue sky.

The Texas flooding is devastating. Nature can be brutal.

I watched the 45th Capitol 4th on PBS. It was well done and reminded me of the patriotism that built this country.  I also learned that there are 14 territories held by the USA. They are 5 inhabited…American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, United States Virgin Islands and…

9 uninhabited… Baker Island, Howland Island ,Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Midway Atoll, Navassa Island, Palmyra Atoll, Wake Island

No wonder people are confused about the ‘big, beautiful bill. Trump keeps saying no tax on Social Security. Others say it is only a few who won’t pay tax on their SS. I’ve tried to find the truth, but don’t seem to be able to. Guess I’ll just wait until tax time to find out. I did find out about ‘no tax on tips’. That’s what Trump said, but it is only for people who earn less than $26,000/year and itemize their deductions on the Federal form. Sneaky.

Famous Quotes That People Have Always Misinterpreted

"Houston, we have a problem" – John Swigert

This quote was said by John Swigert, but it was misinterpreted. What Swigert actually said was, “Ok, Houston; we’ve had a problem here.” It’s thought that the misquote was due to Jim Lovell, who said the now famous “Houston, we have a problem” in the film Apollo 13.mous Historical Myths That People Still Believe

Famous Historical Myths That People Still Believe Today

The Pyramids Were Built by Slaves ©Ricardo Liberato on Wikimedia Commons

Many believe the Egyptian pyramids were built by slaves, but evidence suggests otherwise. Archaeologists have found the tombs of workers who were well-fed and respected, not treated as slaves. The builders were likely skilled laborers who took pride in their work.

Random Thoughts…

France, Britain, and Ireland are home to a combined 15 of the 20 oldest known buildings in the world. The oldest, Barnenez in France, dates to 4800 BC. Over 2,000 years older than the oldest pyramid in Egypt.

A group of Parrots is called a Company or Pandemonium.

The Monopoly guy has an actual name: Milburn Pennybags

The average American woman of today weighs the same as the average American man of the 1960s

TV’s Mythbusters once tested a combination of common materials that made an extremely powerful explosive. They deleted the tapes and swore to never release the information, then contacted DARPA and warned them about the possibility of misuse from the combination.
