Thoughts for the day
A nice summer day. Monsoon is kinda’ ‘iffy’ today. Yesterday I had a nice
25+minute hard rain that brought much needed moisture.
There is a difference between Putin speaking at a UN meeting in NYC, like
he did in 2015 and Putin being invited to the US to meet with Trump in Alaska.
The idea that a suspected war criminal meets with our President on US soil make
me a little ashamed and a whole lot disturbed. Yes, they need to meet, but whatever
happened to ‘neutral ground’.
I stopped at our old Wal-Mart to pick up some groceries. I must say, I
like the newer Wal-Mart better. The newer one has a better selection.
I have been looking for round wooden toothpicks. I hardly ever use them
and the last time I bought them has to be at least a decade ago. While wandering
the old Wal-Mart if found a display of bamboo toothpicks. I’m now set for
another decade.
Myths from Medieval Times
Medieval Citizens Were Diverse
Modern depictions of Medieval
Europe show people who are mostly Anglo-Saxon. However, the Middle Ages were
diverse, even in Europe. This even appears in Medieval paintings. Art professor
Pamela Patton says that Medieval artists "seem clearly interested in
representing a diversity of ethnic variations."
Why don't we see more
diversity, then? Blogger and researcher Malisha Dewalt found that many
textbooks did not include this art. Many people don't focus on diverse art,
because it contradicts what many people believe about the Middle Ages. If you
want to see them, go to a museum.

Famous People
The Steam Engine
James Watt revolutionized steam engine efficiency, but Hero
of Alexandria conceptualized a rudimentary steam-powered device around 60 AD.
Hero’s design, known as the aeolipile, featured a rotating sphere powered by
steam jets, demonstrating the principles of mechanical movement.
Hero’s invention lacked practical applications, but it
showcased early knowledge of steam propulsion. Watt refined steam engines by
incorporating a separate condenser, drastically improving fuel efficiency and
mechanical output.
His innovations enabled the Industrial Revolution,
transforming transportation and manufacturing. Though Hero pioneered steam
concepts, Watt’s engineering advancements made steam power essential to global
industry.
