My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

I went out looking for a new bedspread this morning. No luck. After 4 stores I had found hundreds of quilts and comforters but not one simple old-fashioned bedspread. I’ll just keep looking. I had previously found some on the internet machine…all were designer ones and over $100. I won’t pay that much.

Remember the AZ election audit…the 16-day one that has lasted 5+ months? Well, they missed another one of their published deadlines with no results. It seems that the unknown team has Covid. The Cyber Ninjas announced yesterday that 3 of the 5-team leading the audit are sick. Only the Ninjas know the names of those leading this farce. Hmmm.

Dr. Fauci announced yesterday that it will be the spring of 2022 before the US will have control of Covid. That is getting too close to our Tahiti trip. Guess we all just wait and see. Damn!

Biden must decide today if Aug 31 is our final withdrawal date to get the 5600 troops out by Aug 31. This seems odd since we are got 11,000 Americans out in one day…yesterday. The end of American involvement gets crazier every single day.

The Great Moon Hoax refers to a series of six articles published in the New York Sun starting on August 25, 1835, about the alleged discovery of a new moon on the moon. Great warm day with a breeze. Couldn’t ask for more.

Pfizer vaccine is fully approved for those over 16. Trump got some ‘boos’ when he told his latest audience to get vaccinated. Wonder what the next excuse will be?

The media keeps saying that this Afghanistan war is the longest in US history. I wish they would add ‘foreign’ in their press releases. In the US, the military was at war with Indigenous nations much longer. East of the Mississippi the military fought from 1775-1842 (67 years) and West of the Mississippi the military fought from 1811-1924 (113 years). Indigenous Nations fought on the Great Plains for 60 years. It is strange to me that most History books have labeled all Indigenous people as ‘Indian.’ But when these same books write about the move west, they separate tribes and talk about small individual wars that didn’t last that long. Hmmm.

I have read how the previous administration brokered a deal with the Taliban to withdraw from Afghanistan. That deal led to the withdrawal happening right now. I just learned yesterday that deal was between the Taliban and the US and at no time was the Afghan government involved is the negotiations. Not under Trump; not under Biden. This says a lot about the US government’s faith in the Afghan government we were training. In the 20 years we were there, we never understood that the tribal regions ran the country and not any National government in Kabul or anywhere else. While most US citizens wanted us out of Afghanistan long ago, I doubt that most understood that the Afghan government we were supporting really had no power. The Taliban has announced the Aug 31 deadline is ‘a red line’. Sad!

Dog days continue. Warm, slight breeze, enjoyable.

Broncos beat Seattle last night. I couldn’t watch the game as it wasn’t on any channel I have. But I could follow on the internet machine.

CNN advertised the We Love NYC concert all week. I watched it on and off. When Elton John came on, there had been some light drizzle, but now there was lightning. Elton’s song was stopped. NYC Mayor came out to say “Seek shelter now. We will resume after the storm passes.” Then a few minutes later an unseen announcer said ‘The concert is cancelled.’ CNN must have had no other programming available because Anderson Cooper and his cohost turn it into a New Year’s Eve type program. They joked, cajoled, then started interviewing people and then interviewing performers who were backstage and simply calling in. This lasted the rest of the time allocation of the program. It turned out to be quite entertaining and crazy at the same time.
