How many can you identify?…answers in Today’s Birthdays

My Free Rambling Thoughts
Lots of clouds and finally a nice long shower at my place, but looking around, it looks like other areas go at least some rain. That’s good.

So the jury is finally deliberating in the Zimmerman trial. Over the years I have worked with a few ‘security’ people who were little more than wanna be cops. Since the first release of information, that is the picture I have had of Zimmerman. He didn’t need to ‘follow’ the kid, just call 911 and sit tight. If he is found guilty, it will send a message to lots of wanna bes to be much less vigilant in their pursuit of crime. If he is found not guilty it will send a message that one does not need to listen to 911 trained operators and just go after any perceived ‘perp’. Scary times may be ahead. Interesting and nice that the Zimmerman family issued a joint statement of their belief in the justice system and asking for peace no matter what the verdict is.

Joke-of-the-day
Three men were discussing at a bar about coincidences. The first man said, " my wife was reading a "tale of two cities" and she gave birth to twins"
"That’s funny", the second man remarked, "my wife was reading 'the three musketeers' and she gave birth to triplets"
The third man shouted, "Good God, I have to rush home!"
When asked what the problem was, he exclaimed, " When I left the house, my wife was reading Ali baba and the forty Thieves"!!!

Yeah, It Really Happened
A Tennessee homeowner was distracted by a naked woman swimming in his backyard pool.
The 54-year-old man told police that a man and woman who lived nearby approached his home to talk to him. During the conversation the man excused himself to go back home and retrieve cigarettes.
Alone with the victim, the woman asked him about his pool, and if she could take a swim. He told the woman it would be OK and led her to the rear of his house where the pool is located.
The woman then asked if it would bother him if she swam in the nude, and he replied that it would not. She proceeded to take off her clothes and jumped into the pool, swimming for about 20 minutes. The home owner retrieved a towel from inside his home, the woman dried off, dressed and left.
It was at that point he re-entered his home to discover that he had been robbed of a handgun, jewelry and medication. The loss was placed at $1,195.
While the two suspects have been identified, they have not been found by police for questioning.
  • Somewhat Useless Information
  • The most common type of shark attack is the so-called "hit and run" assault. The shark bites and then quickly releases the person and disappears. These attacks usually involve injuries to the leg below the knee and are not usually fatal. Humans are usually considered too bony to be a good meal for a shark.
  • Seen from below, swimmers or surfboarders are often mistaken for seals or sea lions, whose fatty bodies are a favorite treat for sharks. Human splashing creates irregular ripples in the water below, which to a shark may indicate an injured seal or fish.
  • In the U.S., your chances of getting killed by lightning are 30 times greater than dying of a shark attack.
  • Shiny jewelry that gleams like fish scales, multi-color swimsuits, and irregular tanning, especially on the bottom of the feet, could also confuse a shark into thinking a person was an animal.
  • Most shark attacks occur on the inshore side of a sandbar or between sandbars because fish congregate there and because sharks can become trapped at low tide.
  • When attacks are reported, it is often difficult to determine what type of shark was involved since even experts can have trouble distinguishing them when in the water.

My Free Rambling Thoughts
Cheryl and I got together for a good lunch at a local favorite. She got to hear about my HOA from hell and I got to hear about her great 4th with her son, daughter-in-law, and the kids. They had what sounded like a great time…parade, Bearizona to see the new white buffalo calf, and lots of time to discuss local and family events. Neither of us has heard from Mary, but we have seen her FB updates so we know she is alive and having a great time. Mary’s group went salmon fishing today and should be enjoying fresh salmon tonight…wow, that sounds good.

I’m hoping for a quiet weekend here…a little rain, a cool breeze, and not too many people stopping by.  I do have projects to do around the house, and this weekend will be a great time to get some of them done.

A monk has a very specific ritual for climbing up the steps to the temple. First he climbs up to the middle step and meditates for 1 minute. Then he climbs up 8 steps and faces east until he hears a bird singing. Then he walks down 12 steps and picks up a pebble. He takes one step up and tosses the pebble over his left shoulder. Now, he walks up the remaining steps three at a time which only takes him 9 paces. How many steps are there?

Unusual Fact of the Day
Despite being nominated five times, Gandhi never won the Nobel Peace Prize. Although posthumous awards aren’t given, the Nobel Committee came as close as possible in 1948, the year he died, when they didn't give out an award because “there was no suitable living candidate.”
Joke-of-the-day
A guy was driving when a policeman pulled him over. He rolled down his window and said to the officer, "Is there a problem, Officer?"
"No problem at all. I just observed your safe driving and am pleased to award you a $5,000 Safe Driver Award. Congratulations. What do you think you're going to do with the money?"
He thought for a minute and said, "Well, I guess I'll go get that drivers' license."
The lady sitting in the passenger seat said to the policeman, "Oh, don't pay attention to him - he's a smartass when he's drunk and stoned."
The guy from the back seat said, "I TOLD you guys we wouldn't get far in a stolen car!"
At that moment, there was a knock from the trunk and a muffled voice said, "Are we over the border yet?"

Yeah, It Really Happened
LADY LAKE, Fla. - Florida authorities said they arrested a burglary suspect found sleeping on the victim's couch with stolen jewelry in his pocket. Lady Lake police said a homeowner walked into the Lady Lake home's living room Sunday to find Domonique Pinkard, 21, sleeping on the couch, the Orlando Sentinel reported Tuesday. "I've never broken into a home... But I don't think I would be able to fall asleep," police Chief Chris McKinstry said. "He [Pinkard] feels pretty comfortable in others' surroundings." Investigators said Pinkard and Julian Evangelist, 20, forced a back door to the home open around 7:30 a.m. and Pinkard fell asleep on the couch while Evangelist was absconding with a TV. "Evangelist apparently chose not to wake Pinkard, but left with the victim's TV instead. Pinkard awoke to police arresting him," McKinstry said. McKinstry said Pinkard had some of the homeowner's jewelry in his pockets and he led them to Evangelist, who was found to be in possession of the remaining stolen property at his nearby home. The men were charged with burglary and larceny grand theft. They were taken to the Lake County Jail.
