My Rambling Thoughts
What a day with bureaucrats. A friend from the Rez has a son (24) who tore his knee. He arrived on crutches at my house. The plan was to get his AHCCCS insurance straightened out today. He did the injury in Flag on Sat and went to the local hospital who gave him crutches and a knee brace, but couldn’t treat him anymore until he was signed up for the AZ state insurance. A lady filled out the forms and told him to check back today and make an appointment with Orthopedics. Phone call learned that the lady who filled out the forms in on vacation. Referred to Winslow IHS clinic to get more information. That lady says the AZ website was down all weekend for maintenance. Called back to the hospital and another lady said she would input the information today and call him with a tracking number. Still waiting for that call 5 hours later. Pain meds are $200, which the family can’t afford. So it’s Ibuprofin and ice packs. Tough guy is living through it. Sadly it is a typical Rez story in trying to get medical care. All I had to do was furnish the phone.
Then, yesterday I called my physician for a renewal for my allergy meds. They called it in, but the pharmacy was out until today. The pharmacy has been sending me renewal notices for one of my thyroid meds, but the Dr. gave me a different dosage, so I ignored the renewal and took the script to pick up today along with the allergy meds. Now they are out of the thyroid meds. They’ll be in tomorrow. What a pain.

Brain Teasers
(answers at the end of post)
The following riddle was originally printed in 1867 in "London Society".

On six feet, I am a noxious drink,
Of whose effects you shudder to think.
Change only my second foot, and then
You convert me into a horrible den
Where the culprit, who gave the noxious drink,
Awaits the fate of which you shudder to think.

Egyptian art commonly depicts pharaohs as being trim and statuesque, but this was most likely not the case. Learn here the paradox of the situation.

Many ancient Egyptian Pharaohs were overweight and unhealthy, in contrast to their typical depiction, according to history.com.

That was likely due to a sugary diet of alcohol, bread and honey.

Four southern ladies were sitting around having Bloody Marys and talking about how much their husbands loved them.
The first one says, "My husband loves me so much that he bought me a diamond ring." But, of course, she was in such a hurry she forgot her rings, but all the women still said, "Oh, how nice."
The second woman says, "Well, my husband loves me so much he got me a fur coat." But it was the middle of July and too hot to wear a coat, but still all the ladies said, "Oh, how nice."
So then the third woman says, "Well, my husband loves me so much he bought me a Mercedes-Benz." And, of course, she was being chauffeured in the family Buick."
So they all looked at the fourth woman and said, "Well, honey, how much does your husband love you?"
She replied, "He loves me so much that he bought me lesson to a charm school so I could learn to say 'Oh, how nice' instead of sarcastically saying 'Oh, ya, right' after everything you ladies say."

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. - A disappointed visitor to Yellowstone National Park left a note on a feedback form asking rangers to train bears to hang out where they can be seen. The note, shared on Reddit by a person who purported to be a friend of an employee at a Yellowstone lodge, was written on the bottom of a feedback form for trouble with maintenance and housekeeping. The note reads: "Our visit was wonderful but we never saw any bears. Please train your bears to be where guests can see them. This was an expensive trip to not get to see bears." A Redditor commenting on the post said the note reminded them of a quote from a Yellowstone park ranger: "There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the stupidest tourists."

Three dogs (from First Class cabins!) survived the sinking of the Titanic - two Pomeranians and one Pekingese.

It's rumored that, at the end of the Beatles song, "A Day in the Life," Paul McCartney recorded an ultrasonic whistle, audible only to dogs, just for his Shetland sheepdog.

Dalmatian puppies are pure white when they are born and develop their spots as they grow older.

Dogs and humans have the same type of slow wave sleep (SWS) and rapid eye movement (REM) and during this REM stage dogs can dream. The twitching and paw movements that occur during their sleep are signs that your pet is dreaming.

Dogs' eyes contain a special membrane, called the tapetum lucidum, which allows them to see in the dark.

A large breed dog's resting heart beats between 60 and 100 times per minute, and a small dog breed's heart beats between 100-140. Comparatively, a resting human heart beats 60-100 times per minute.
