Yet another nice spring day. No
complaints.
One of my former colleagues’
son had a stroke in early April. He is in his mid 40’s. Yesterday he was
allowed to chew small ice for the first time. He remains in ICU. It has been
hard on my colleague and Randy’s wife and kids. Hope he continues to improve.
It has been a little longer
than forever since I bought any ‘long pants’. The last time they were about
$25. Today I picked up two pairs for about $40/each. I looked at Penny’s
yesterday and they had nothing I liked. This morning Kohl’s had some nice ones,
and they were BOGO ½ off.
With Title 42 ending soon,
President Biden sent active-duty troops to the border to deal with a expected
mass crossings as soon as 42 ends. CNN has been following some migrants from
South America to the border. Congress has been unable to deal with the crisis
for more than a decade. Either side points a finger at the other party to blame
them. These migrants have horrific stories of life in their homeland and of the
journey to America. We need some solutions soon.

cat can jump 5 times as high as its tail is long
Cats
can really jump. Research has found that the average cat can jump roughly the
height of 5 or 6 times the length of its tail. Since the tail is usually
roughly the same length as the body, this is the equivalent of a 6-foot tall
human being able to jump 30-36 feet into the air. The average cat is 46
centimeters in length and thus can jump almost 7.5 feet in the air. That is 3
quarters of the height of a basketball hoop!

Kentucky
Knowing your namesake can be a point of pride,
as it carries on the legacy of those who came before. But for Kentuckians, they
may never know exactly where their state’s name came from. There are several
prevailing theories, all primarily derived from Iroquois names. One includes a
word for “prairie”; another, kentahten,
means “land of tomorrow.” Other experts
say it originated from an Algonquian
term, kinathiki, which refers to a river bottom, or a Shawnee word
meaning "at the head of a river.” Some records indicate that the Wyandot
people’s Iroquois word for “plain” is in fact the
true origin, and that it was first recorded in 1753. One thing’s certain: The
Bluegrass State’s official name origins remain a mystery.
