Today’s Thoughts

 Busy week ahead.  I’m ready.

I had to pick up some cash today. Drive thru ATM was not working so had to get out of the car and walk up 7 steps to get to the outdoor ATM. Took a little time but all good. The receipt from the drive thru ATM said to call a number. After I got my walk-up money, I sat in the car and called the number. After having to put in tons of information, I got a guy. I explained the broken ATM 7 times and each time he said ‘did you get your cash?’ I asked for a supervisor. She listened and after 2 explanations, she transferred me to the ‘fraud division’. I explained to her that my card was fine, the bank’s ATM was not working. I finally explained that I had to use a cane to climb the steps to get to the outside machine, and I was calling because it was a real hassle. She was very nice and said the machine fixer should be out in about an hour. Time will tell.

Enjoy

Today’s Thoughts

The noticeable eclipse was about 20 minutes here. Very eerie during that time. No birds were seen or heard and still haven’t returned by noon.

Had another good night’s sleep, no ice pack either. Getting so much better. I actually took a full sack of laundry downstairs in one trip. Happy camper.

The events that continue in Gaza are horrific. It is getting more difficult to realize that Hamas is a small group of Palestinians there. Much easier to label all Palestinians as Hamas, than to dig into the facts. The 24-hour news outlets are doing a little more interviews with Palestinians on their horrific loss too.

Today’s Thoughts

First hard freeze of this fall…25°. My furnace came on about 5am for the first time this fall.

An annular solar eclipse will happen Saturday morning. It will be from Oregon to N. AZ, NM and farther south. Many cultures have legends to explain what is happening.

…Hindus believe one diety beheaded another causing an eclipse.

…Mexico: The belief originated with the Aztecs, who thought that an eclipse occurred because a bite had been taken out of the moon. If the pregnant woman viewed the eclipse, her infant would have a bite taken out of its mouth.

…Zulu: there was a solar eclipse, and according to legend, this motivated the Zulus, who claimed that it was a sign that they would prevail.

…Navajo: stay inside, pray, don’t eat or drink during eclipse. Peace will occur after the eclipse. Animals also seek shade, stay silent, and accept that good will come.

Talking On A Date Wasn't Believed To Be Important

During the 1960s, a notable trend emerged where individuals sought to avoid conversation during dates. This trend was based on the belief that women lacked conversational skills, leading to the encouragement of planning activities that would eliminate the need for talking throughout the entire date.

Random Trivia…

An ancient text called the Voynich Manuscript still baffles scientists. Hand-written in an unknown language, the Voynich Manuscript has been carbon-dated to roughly 1404–1438. Hundreds of cryptographers and master codebreakers have tried to decipher it over the years, with none succeeding in grasping its meaning or origin.

The Eastern Roman Empire’s weapon, called Greek Fire, was used in ship-mounted flamethrowers. This weapon was so unique and deadly due to the fact that throwing water onto it would only feed the fire. It was mostly used in naval warfare, as the large flamethrowers needed for its projectile use could be better accommodated by ships rather than infantry.
