My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
A downpour interrupted
lunch with Mary and Mike. We were sitting on the patio at Wildflower when there
was some close lightning. We under an overhang when the downpour happened.
Still a good lunch as we grabbed our food and headed inside. Nice lunch and
Mike joined in very well.
Student debt
forgiveness looks more political than helpful.
Finally, the
Police chief in Uvalde schools was fired.
Kobe’s
family will get $16million over the photos taken at the crash site. The other
family gets a big chunk too. I am expecting an appeal.
AZ had lots
of people on unemployment during the pandemic. Now that it is no longer a priority
the DES has notified 27,000 that even though they were approved and received checks
for well over a year, it was an oops. They are now being told to repay money.
More ahead for sure.

One Hit Wonders
"Spirit in the Sky," Norman
Greenbaum (1970)
Singer-songwriter
Norman Greenbaum actually had four songs chart on the Hot 100 in the U.S during
his career. However, only this one from the start of the decade made it into
the top 45 -- peaking at No. 3. According to Greenbaum, it's a gospel song. One
that just happens to have that signature, the late '60s, psychedelic-rock feel.
More than 50 years after its release, "Spirit in the Sky" is still a
classic rock favorite.
Historical Events
1498 – Michelangelo began his work to
carve the Pieta, depicting the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary
after the Crucifixion.
1789 – The Declaration of the Rights of
Man and of the Citizen was approved by the National Constituent Assembly of
France.
1883 (Volcano Eruption & Tsunami)
Krakatoa began. It was one of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic
events in recorded history, with at over 36,000 deaths being attributed to the
eruption itself and the tsunamis it created. Small eruptions, mostly of mud,
continued into October 1883.
1939 – The first televised baseball game
was played between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds on WXBS in New
York.
1978 – Pope John Paul I was elected.
