My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Weather app says we may have some rain in the next hour. I’ll happily wait.

I didn’t post yesterday. I had a very long lunch with my former retired financial advisor. She is renting a condo here in Flag for the month…$5K for a 2 bedroom. After about an hour of conversation, we went to Toasted Owl for lunch. We ordered and continued the conversation. Realizing we had been waiting 30 minutes I checked with the waitress. She apologized and brought us one of their famous hot cinnamon rolls. Lunch finally came after a total of 45 minutes. It was a good day, but I didn’t get home until almost 3:30.

Here's a new phrase for lots of rain…”It is raining chicken and ducks”…because it is ‘fowl’ weather. Haha.

I thought it was off that Trump’s first wife was recently buried at one of his golf courses…in a small 10-plot ‘cemetery’ near the first hole. I read today that this decision brought tax advantages as a golf course pays more taxes than a cemetery.

I also voted in the AZ Primary yesterday. While I live in a predominantly Dem area, overall, the state Republicans put Election deniers in almost all of the state-wide and national office positions for the upcoming general election.  WOW!

One Hit Wonders

The Hollywood Argyles: 'Alley-oop'

Based on the syndicated comic strip cartoonist Vincent T. Hamlin created in 1932, this song tells the story of prehistoric caveman Alley Oop. The Hollywood Argyles lead singer Gary Paxton named the band after the recording studio's location on Argyle Street and Hollywood Boulevard. In an interview with the Tennessean, Dallas Frazier said of writing the song while working in a California cotton gin, “I knew I had something. I just knew it. You kind of know it, sometimes. I knew that Alley Oop had potential.”

Historical Events

70 – The Romans destroyed the Second Temple in Jerusalem.
1693 – This date is traditionally ascribed to Dom Perignon’s invention of champagne.
1790 – A tariff act created the need for the Revenue Cutter Service, later renamed The United States Coast Guard.
1821 – The Saturday Evening Post is published for the first time as a weekly newspaper. It is now published periodically throughout the year.
1892 – Andrew Jackson Bordon, along with his wife Abby, were found by Lizzie Bordon, who was arrested and acquitted of their grisly ax murder.
1921 – Cropdusting was invented. John B. Macready flew a Curtiss JN-4 over catalpa trees near Troy, Ohio, killing 99% of the leaf caterpillars, saving the 5000 trees with 175 pounds of lead arsenate pesticide.
1936 – Jesse Owens, black Olympic track star, won the Gold Medal in Germany’s Olympics, embarrassing Adolph Hitler.
1958 – The Billboard Hot 100 was published for the first time. The first number-one song of the Hot 100 was “Poor Little Fool” by Ricky Nelson.
1977 – The United States Department of Energy was formed.
