My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

A nice summer day.

Quite the legal day yesterday…Alex Jones must pay $4million to family who lost sone at Sandy Hook…today will add more to the fine. Then, Griner got 9 years in prison in Russia for drugs. Negotiations continue to get her back here. A few years ago, she asked the WNBA not to play the National Anthem at games. When they declined, she stayed in the locker room until the song was over. Finally, the Chief of Police in our mountain town was put on administrative leave as the massage parlor incident is fully investigated. Not a good time to be involved with illegalities.

An intoxicated driver tried to drive a pickup truck into the Gallup Ceremonial Parade yesterday. He was in the area of NN President Nez and his group marching in the parade. A few parade goers suffered minor injuries. This was the opening of the 100th annual Ceremonial that brings Natives from around the country. So sad.

I did some shopping at Sam’s this morning. Gas is coming down slowly…it was $3.49 today.

One Hit Wonders

  Ernie K-Doe: 'Mother-in-Law'

In this 1961 song, Ernie K-Doe talks about the difficulties of life with a meddling mother-in-law, and it snagged the #1 spot on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard R&B chart. In 1994, K-Doe opened "The Mother-in-Law Lounge," in New Orleans. After his death in 2001, his wife Antoinette kept the music venue going. Though she died in 2009, the popular neighborhood club remains open to this day.
