Today’s Thoughts
Blue
sky, just a breeze, can’t ask for any better weather.
Sad
to read of the passing of Music Icon Tina Turner at 83. Her songs live on.
As
more Republicans enter the 2024 Presidential Primary, remember, at this time in
2016 Trump was polling at 3% for the Primary.
US
military has killed a civilian with a drone strike on Syrian land. The ‘current’
story is that the target was Syrian terrorist. I have to wonder if we will ever
know the truth or if the US will pay the Syrian farmer’s family for the
untimely death. Hmmm.
Dr.
Jacob Weasel, 36, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and a surgeon at
Monument Health in Rapid City, has become the first Native American to summit
Mount Everest.

Origins of State Names
Rhode Island
You’ll have to forgive early explorers for
assuming Rhode Island was an island. The New England state’s official stance on the origin
of its name is that Dutch explorer Adriaen Block, on his 1614 expedition,
called it "Roodt Eylandt” ("red island”) after seeing the red clay
that lined the shore. One other popular theory however, is that explorer
Giovanni da Verrazzano anchored near
present-day Providence and compared the region to the Greek island of Rhodes. Though
it’s not an island, Rhode Island still offers incredible oceanside views of the
Atlantic that have earned it the very appropriate nickname, the Ocean State.
