Random Tidbits
In colonial times and into the early decades of the
19th century, most teachers were men. From the 1820s to 1830s, as more public
schools (called Common Schools) were built and more men were siphoned off by
more prestigious professions, women began to take over the schoolroom. The
feminization of teaching not only change how society perceived women, but how
women perceived themselves.

True Things
Police
in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, continue to investigate two explosive incidents in
area port-a-potties, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. No one was injured
in either explosion, the first of which occurred Nov. 5 in Lawrenceville and
was strong enough to blow apart the toilet and damage a nearby home, police
said. The second came on Nov. 10 in East Allegheny. Pittsburgh's Bomb Squad and
Crime Unit is working to determine what types of explosives were used and
whether the events are related.

My Rambling Thoughts
Another cold night and by noon it is a sweltering 37 degrees. Guess I
should not have packed away my summer clothes. NOT. Hard to believe that 2020
is the 3rd warmest in history. Climate Change is real and should never
be confused with weather change.
I am not a handyman and at my age, probably never will be. Three days ago
I moved a plant and in doing so, tipped it over and dumped dirt onto my carpet
between the stand and the wall. I pulled out my Shark vacuum, pulled the hose
out of the bottom and sucked up the dirt very easily. Then I put the hose down,
with the vacuum still running while I moved the plant stand. The super suction
of the Shark found a dust rag I was also using. I what seemed like a millisecond,
the rag was sucked into the tube and stopped all suction. I needed something
long and slim with a clip or hook on the end to get the rag out. I couldn’t
find anything that worked. For the next day I would contemplate what to use. An
old coat hanger would do great, but I only have the wooden ones for heavy
stuff, and those semi-fancy ones covered with fabric. Yesterday, I was getting
out a coat so I could empty the trash and saw I had a very heavy winter jacket
that was cleaned and still in the covering from the cleaners. The cleaners had
used 3 old fashioned wire hangers to hold the jacket. Within 5 minutes my
jacket was on 2 hangers, and the rag was removed from the vacuum. Success. I
put the unbent hanger wire with my other ‘tools’ for future use.
A few years ago, I bought a pod single cup coffee maker. I am not a
coffee drinker, so, I only used it if I had a guest or two who drank coffee. Then
I discovered Hot Cocoa pods. I put the water in the maker, add the pod, put
some milk in the bottom of the cup, push the buttons and within no time I have
nice rich hot cocoa. I’ve been using it for the past few days of cold weather.
One of my comfort foods is creamed chipped beef on buttered toast. At
dinner last night I realized I hadn’t taken anything out of the freezer to
cook. I had a jar of thinly sliced beef in the panty, but no fresh bread. Then
I found a can of biscuits in the fridge. Turned out great and may become a new
go-to for comfort food. I also enjoy biscuits and gravy so I should have
figures this out decades ago.
I was horrified when I saw General Flynn suggesting that Trump should
declare Martial Law and then hold a new election. I guess that is his way of saying
thanks for the pardon. Now he has a petition for this action. Even so, it is a
very, very bad idea that should not happen.
